ROAD RALLY REPORT

The annual Ray Balcerzak Memorial Road Rally took place August 17, on a course set by Linda and Dave Malinoski. Fifteen cars finished (out of a possible 16 - the Happy Wanderers took a 'different' turn! Maybe we should follow their route next year since it included an Ice Cream Stop!) Approximately 60 revelers enjoyed the post-rally festivities at the Hiller's. The group donation reached $375 for the local Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Club Member Ray Balcerzak, originator of the Road Rally. The prize winners: 1st Place Trophy - Sue Heller and Shari Miller; 2nd - Joan Condel and Fred Gulla; 3rd - Karen and Todd Yerg. Some of these winners have won previous rallies, so that sets the challenge for next year!!

EPSC Needs Volunteers

Do you know what EPSC is? It means Eastern Pennsylvania Ski Council which is the parent body of your ski clubs.

We run events, trips and sell vouchers and probably are best know by your racers for the Council Cup the last Sunday in February.

In order to pay for many of those activities, we need more than the dues each club pays. To keep the cost of dues down, we run a fund raiser called EPSC Winterfest Auction – Fund Raiser. It is Nov. 14, 2008 this year at Williamson’s Restaurant. You will here more details on the auction in the upcoming months but for now the committee would like you to put it on your calendar and if you can help out we could really use some volunteers for the evening.

We will be having two meetings with the volunteers this year.  One will be in September and the second will be in October.  Times and place will be announced at a later date.

If you have an interest in volunteering for this event, please contact Nanci Burkey (Auction Chairperson) at nlburkey@yahoo.com

EPSC Winterfest Auction 2008 Update

Last month, the Winterfest article in your newsletter explained what happens at the auction and how some of the profits are used.

In addition to helping the council with funds for the club activities, we also support several charities or organizations that work with skiers. For example, last year monies from the auction were given to The Ski Patrol, The Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports, and ASIA which is the Amateur Ski Instructors Association. These groups use funds for equipment and supplies to help them with these programs.

Stay tuned for more information and don’t forget we need volunteers from all of our clubs to make this a success. We will be having meetings in September and October with times and places announced in the near future. If you would like to volunteer, you can contact the Auction Chairperson at nlburkey@yahoo.com

Don’t forget the auction is on November 14th and your council representatives will have tickets soon, so if you can’t volunteer come to the auction for some great buys.
